I am very sad and angry.
Some time ago, Ruby For Women published a poem of mine, Give A Mom A Muffin. This was my ORIGINAL work, and someone names Kathie Fictorie took it, signing her name to it and sending it out to the masses.
I have tried to contact many of the people who have copied my poem (some which have deemed it Author Unknown) and asked that they please take down the poem or put my name as the author, as well as a link to this blog. It's only fair that I get credit for my own work.
Kathie Fictorie is NOT the original author, nor was the poem HER work, in any way, shape or form. I do not know this woman, and am very upset that someone would steal something that I wrote.
Imitation is NOT a form a flattery, it's plagiarism. Especially since she didn't ask me to repost If You Give A Mom A Muffin.
If you are one of those that has posted the poem in the past, I ask that you please take it down, or email me to ask permission to post it with MY name, and the link to this blog. That is all I ask. Please remove any copies of this poem with Kathie Fictorie's name. She stole this from me.
And Kathie, if you're reading this, please stop copying my work and selling it or sending it out to others with your name on it. Do your OWN work.
An Addendum: I've had many asking for the original post of this to prove myself. I've looked for the original post and unfortunately, because I was publishing it in a magazine, I had deleted the original post. It wouldn't have been right to have a copy on my blog and publishing it in a magazine. Because I did this and didn't print it out directly from the blog (confirming the date of the original post), I have no proof other than my word that it was my original work.
It's a bonehead newbie mistake on my part, but the simple fact is, I don't have a legal leg to stand on, so I can't pursue the matter legally. I'm going to let go and let God.
God has blessed me with the gift to write, so I'm going to continue using what God gave me. It's hard giving up on something like this, but I have to, since I have no proof of ownership.
I'll begin thinking of this as a blessing in disguise, because it has gone viral (1,050,000 hits on Google)- and that means there are a lot of people who loved my work- even if it's dubbed under someone else's name. It's time to focus on the positive and give up the negative. God Bless!

Hi Beth,
I received your email about the poem today. I was happy to add your name and a link to your blog, because I absolutely love the poem.
Blessings
Honey
I am sorry that this happened. I had no idea that you wrote it, and I wouldn't have posted it on my blog without giving you proper credit. I've deleted the post.
I received your comment today and have changed the author name/link as requested. I absolutely love the poem, and I'm sorry the original source I found it at had the wrong author listed.
Beth–I am so sorry about that. I was not aware that you were the original author. I have revised the post and listed you as the author, and included a link to your blog.
A great tip I was given as a new writer was to print out and mail (to myself) a copy of my work, by registered mail, requiring a signature upon delivery, prior to posting it online. Then don't open it when you receive it - just keep it in case you ever need to prove ownership (make sure the contents are clearly labelled for easy retrieval). A friend who experienced problems similar to your stolen poem has had success in getting a thief of her work to remove it and compensate her and, on another occasion, had a judge rule in her favour based on the evidence of ownership of the work in her unopened signed and dated envelope (which the judge opened himself). Always better to be safe than sorry and make this a habit!
I do actually KNOW a woman named Kathy Fictorie, and since she's a woman who's very particular regarding legal matters (she's been an officer of an outstanding artistic quilt guild for years)and works in a collegiate library (thus is even MORE unlikely that she would flout copyright laws), it's more believable to me that someone heard the poem from her and mistakenly thought she wrote it. Beth, if you were able to make contact with her, I feel certain she herself would insist she didn't write it. Just wanted to let you know it wasn't someone trying to be malevolent. : )
Hello Beth,
I was searching for the author of the wonderful poem - "If You Give a Mom a Muffin," and I came across your blog. I am so sorry that your creative work was stolen. I would love to print your poem with your name and picture in my local MOPS (mothers of preschoolers)newsletter. Would you grant me permission to do this? Many of the moms in our group here in Indiana have been talking about how much we identify with your poem.
Thank you,
JoLynda Wilson
To SJ Stanley: Mistakes happen, and I have already tried to contact her but have not gotten any response. If you could pass the word to her that I am perfectly willing to work out this mess, I'd appreciate it. All I wanted was credit for my work and have the work unchanged from the original. Thank you!
To JoLynda: I would be happy to share my poem with you! I appreciate the fact that you'll also add my picture as well as my name- just make sure the original poem is posted- most of the internet versions are the altered version.
Thank you so much for your comment!

Thank you!
@SJ Stanley
I have just recently changed my blog so I can reply to posts. If this Kathy Fictorie is indeed the one and the same, I would very much like to speak with her to get this mess straightened out.
The reason I made this post was a friend of Kathy's ( who might or might not be your friend you told me about) said that her friend Kathy wrote it- therefore claiming the poem as her own.
If this is indeed a genuine mistake, I will be happy to delete this post and ask for her 'formal' statement that she doesn't lay claim to be the author of my work. All I want out of this is credit for my work. I can't legally use this poem anywhere else until this is dealt with.
Please have her contact me thought my facebook page, either through Footprints inn the Mud or Beth Brubaker. I would be happy to hear from her.
And thank you for popinting out that this whole matter might have been just a HUGE misunderstanding!

Hi Beth,
Thank you so much for commenting on my blog and leaving the corrected version of the poem. I wanted to apologize for posting this poem without crediting an author. I should have known better, but I overlooked that in my excitement to share such a cute poem.
I've edited the post with the correct version of the poem, added a link to your blog, and listed you as the author. If you would prefer that I remove this post, I will gladly do so.
It's so cute! You were very, very creative to come up with such an accurate portrayal of a young mom's morning! :)
